Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in therapy?
In the first session, we'll focus on discussing things that led you to seek therapy, explore your hopes from engaging in therapy and set goals to work towards while in therapy. From there, each session will differ based on your needs, but will always be guided by the goals you’ve shared. Therapy is a place where you can fully be all of you and bring whatever is on your mind. I will actively listen, ask questions and at times offer insight and tools.
I know starting therapy and opening up to someone you don’t know can feel daunting. That's why I offer a 15 minute complimentary consultation so you can get to know me.
Can I still reach out to you for therapy if I’m not dealing with a significant problem or event in my life right now?
Of course! Therapy is for everyone, whether we are going through a tough time or just want to unpack and understand ourselves better. Therapy can be seen as self-care.
Do you work with Insurances?
Yes! I accept the following insurances:
Aetna
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
Cigna
Sentara Health Plans
Quest Behavioral Health
For the insurances that we do not take and/or are not in network with we can offer a superbill, in which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement using your out-of-network benefits, if you have PPO insurance. To find out what your insurance may cover, call your insurance company and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage. Please call the office if you need more information about the superbill process.
What is your cancellation or no-show policy?
Calm Corner Counseling has a 24-hour cancellation/rescheduling fee policy. Please give us 24 hours notice to avoid paying the late cancellation/late reschedule fee which is $150, which is the full session rate. If you no-show for your session, you will be charged the full session fee as well. Please keep in mind that if you are unable to make it to the office you can transition your appointment to telehealth and we can meet virtually.
What is a good faith estimate?
Under the law, as health care providers, we will give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using their insurance benefits an estimate of the expected charges for counseling services.
This estimate is called a “Good Faith Estimate” and explains how much your therapy services will cost. Here are a few key things you should know about your Good Faith Estimate (GFE):
· You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy.
· You can request a Good Faith Estimate at least 3 business days before your scheduled therapy service or anytime during treatment.
· It’s recommended that you save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
Please contact us if you have any questions. Additional information is available by visiting www.cms.gov/nosuproses or cal 1-800-985-3059.
How long are therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions can range from 45-55 minutes in length. Couples therapy sessions can be extended up to 90 minutes in length based on individual needs for an additional cost. All sessions can occur in person or online.
Weekly sessions are highly recommended during the initial phase of the therapy processes.
What payment methods do you accept?
Calm Corner Counseling accepts all major credit cards and requires ALL clients to have a card on file through our secured online portal, Simple Practice. If you need to change your credit card or use a different method of payment, please let your therapist know at the start of the session.
How long do we work together?
Length of working together can vary depending on the focus and goals. Calm Corner Counseling works with people to identify goals and develop a plan for achieving them. As progress is made, we will decrease sessions and work together to maintain progress on a schedule that is comfortable for you.
