How It All Began
Being a mother has been THE most enriching experience in my life! My children are consistently teaching me how to grow in ways I have never imagined possible. My parenting journey is where the concept of Calm Corner Counseling began. When my son began school, he started telling me of a place within the classroom that he could go when he needed time and space to work through his big feelings. He described it as a magical place where there were posters, book, toys and tools that he could use to express his emotions and needs when he was unable to use his words, and he called it the calm corner. The therapist in me was ecstatic that his teachers took so much care in creating a safe place for my son. And I instantly recreated that place within our home. As my son began to utilize the “at home” calm corner, he would invite me talk with him about his feelings and together we would explore ways to work through them. And I realized that these special talks were his mini counseling sessions and aligned with the ways that I support my clients. Thus, Calm Corner Counseling was created.
